Sysco Corporation announced that Tom Bene will join the company, effective April 15, in the newly created role of executive vice president and chief merchandising officer

IKEA's trademark meatballs are returning to its European menu after last month's horsemeat scare, with new supply chain controls "from farm to fork." 
Meatballs from Familjen Dafgard, which supplies nearly all IKEA stores in Europe, would be back in all stores by mid-April. The company made Familjen Dafgard drop eight of its 15 suppliers, including the importer of the meat that contained horse, and would cut the number of purchasing countries, reportedReuters. Full Story

In 2012, U.S. food and beverage exports to the Philippines surpassed 2011 sales by 13% to a record $859 million. 
In the past 10 years, U.S. food and beverage sales more than quintupled. The top U.S. exports were dairy products, meat & poultry, snack foods, and processed fruits & vegetables.USDA Report

³×´ú¶õµå ½ÄÀç·á ȸ»çÀÎ CSMÀº ¼öÀͼº ÀÖ´Â ½ÄÀç·á »ç¾÷¿¡ ÁýÁßÇϱâ À§ÇØ º£ÀÌÄ¿¸® °ø±Þ ºÎ¹®À» ¹Ì±¹ »ç¸ðÆݵå»çÀÎ ·ÐijÇÇÅ»¿¡°Ô 8¾ï5õ¸¸ À¯·Î (¹ÌÈ­ 11¾ï ´Þ·¯)¿¡ ¸Å°¢Çϴµ¥ ÇÕÀÇÇß´Ù.

Dutch food ingredients group CSM agreed to sell its bakery supplies business for 850 million euros ($1.1 billion) to U.S. private equity firm Rhone Capital, and would focus on more profitable food ingredients. CSM put its bakery supplies business, which makes muffins and pastries for European and U.S. retailers, up for sale in May 2012, blaming weak consumer spending and high raw material prices, reported Reuters. Full Story

Energy drink sales are way up while soft drink sales are down. 
Monster Beverage recorded a 19.1% growth in sales volume in 2012, followed by Red Bull at 17% and Rockstar at 8%. Coca-Cola reported a 1% decline in sales volume while PepsiCo's sales volume fell 2.5%. U.S. sales of carbonated soft drinks declined 1.2% in 2012, and the total sales volume of 9.166 billion 192-oz. cases is down to approximately the level it was in 1996, according to Beverage Digest. Per capita consumption in the U.S. was down to its lowest since 1987, falling to 701 8-oz. servings in 2012, from 714 in 2011 and 728 in 2010. Full Story

Pinnacle Foods could file an IPO this year,
 according to speculation by CNBC's Jim Cramer. The company's potential IPO filing is supported by the success of past 2013 IPO's, and because Pinnacle has "a big frozen food business" and grocery business, the analyst claimed, and is "getting out of lower-margin businesses and they've cut costs." Comparing metrics to rival B&G, Jim Cramer thinks "$30 is a pretty reasonable target" for the offering, reported CNBC.Full Story

DuPont and Monsanto reached a series of technology 
licensing 
agreements that will expand the range of seed products they can offer farmers. 
The agreements - under which DuPont will eventually pay the St. Louis crop-biotechnology company a total of $1.75 billion - include a multi-year, royalty-bearing license for Monsanto's next-generation soybean technologies in the U.S. and Canada. Under the agreements, DuPont's Pioneer business - which develops advanced plant genetics to provide farmers with high-quality seeds - will be able to offer Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans as early as 2014, and Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Xtend glyphosate and dicamba tolerant soybeans as early as 2015, reported The Wall Street Journal. Full Story (WSJSubscription Required)

Fresh potato exports from Colorado were approved in Taiwan
. The Taiwan Ministry of Agriculture approved the measure to accept Colorado potatoes, despite tight inventories for the 2012 crop. The market for U.S. fresh potatoes is valued at $5.1 million for 10,600 metric tons in the country, reported The Packer Online. Full Story

Australian farmers in Victoria's Goulburn Valley experienced such a bumper crop of clingstone peaches, that it is going to waste due to lack of market demand.
 A food box delivery company, Aussie Farmers Direct plans to 'rescue' tons of peaches by creating a new consumer market for the surplus fruit, reported Australian Food News. Full Story

Eating a breakfast rich in protein significantly improves appetite control and reduces unhealthy snacking in the evening, 
according to a study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. It is the first time the impact of breakfast consumption on daily appetite and evening snacking has been studied. The consumption of the high-protein breakfast led to increased fullness or "satiety" along with reductions in brain activity that is responsible for controlling food cravings, reportedScience Daily. Full Story
