7¿ùÀÇ IFDA Smart ÄÁÆÛ·±½º¿¡¼­´Â GS1 ¹Ì±¹ Ç¥ÁØ°ú °ü·ÃÇÑ Áøôµµ º¸°í¸¦ ÅëÇØ ¼¼ÀÏÁî¿Í ¸¶ÄÉÆÿ¡ ¿µÇâÀ» ¹ÌÄ¡´Â ÇöÀçÀÇ ¾÷¹« ȯ°æ¿¡ ´ë´Ù·ê ¿¹Á¤ÀÌ´Ù. At the upcoming IFDA SMart Conference, a Foodservice GS1 US Standards progress report will address current work specifically impacting sales and marketing, most notably image standards and their transmission. Crossgar Foodservice is being bought by Sysco, who wanted to expand its presence in Ireland, and made the acquisition through its subsidiary, County Limerick firm Pallas Foods. Crossgar Foodservice has four facilities in Northern Ireland. FSA´Â Yancey¡¯s Food Services of LovelandÀÇ Àμö·Î ¹Ì±¹¼­ºÎÁö¿ª¿¡ ¼­ºñ½º Á¦°øÀÌ °¡´ÉÇØÁ³´Ù.Food Services of America (FSA) has acquired Yancey¡¯s Food Service of Loveland, CO, in a deal that provides the company with complete service coverage of the western U.S. FSA is one of the top ten foodservice distribution companies in the U.S. serving a broad variety of foodservice customers throughout 15 western and mid-western states. Yancey¡¯s Food Service is the 37th largest food distribution company in America. The acquisition adds new service areas for FSA in Colorado and Nebraska with increased coverage in Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico. Chuck E. Cheese's gluten-free pizza is cooked and served in a factory-sealed container, opened at the table and includes an unused, disposable pizza cutter. The 6-inch pie is being test-marketed in its Minnesota restaurants. Front Burner Brands, which owns the 140-store Melting Pot fondue chain and other restaurants, also eliminated flour completely from kitchens in favor of cornstarch, reported The Wall Street Journal. Yum Brands' restaurant margin in China fell to 23.6% in the first quarter of 2012, from 25.1% in the same period in 2011, though the company opened a record 168 new units during the same period. The company reported a wage inflation increase in the first quarter of 17% year-on-year, while chicken prices were up 7% over the same period. Currently, the 4,500 stores in 2011 represent a ratio of one to every $1.6 billion of China's gross domestic product compared with $836 million of GDP in the U.S., reported The Wall Street Journal. Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen introduced Dip'n Chick'n last year after market research revealed interest in fried, boneless chicken snacks that could be eaten in that way. With 17% of all meals ordered at restaurants eaten in cars, according to NPD Group, McDonald's introduced Chicken McBites earlier this year, small fried chicken pieces packaged in a container that fits in a car's cup holder with a slot for dipping sauce, reported The Wall Street Journal. Beijing's Food Safety Administration stated that Walmart violated food-safety standards in March by selling sesame oil exceeding standard amounts of benzopyrene and squid containing hazardous levels of cadmium. The agency's website claimed the sesame oil and squid were produced by domestic companies. The chain sells nearly 38 million gallons of fountain drinks per year worldwide, and sales of the 50-oz. Double Gulp remain the fastest-growing of all the company's cup sizes, reported The Daily. Some 55% of Unilever's total sales in 2012 are from emerging markets, followed by Danone with 51% and Nestle at 41%, according to forecasts by Bernstein. Investors are showing interest in European food conglomerates that are likely to outperform the market during the recession because of their relatively high exposure to emerging markets. Food companies will also get relief from lower commodity prices, which are are expected to drop about 7% this year after declining from all-time highs reached in 2011, reported The Wall Street Journal. After 15 years of growth, ethanol production is expected to decline in the U.S. this year and will be flat in 2013 according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, reported The Wall Street Journal. As the amount of ethanol use in gasoline production nears the federally mandated 10% cap and gasoline consumption is declining, ethanol producers are pushing to increase that mandate to 15%. The report warns that the "frequency and severity of price spikes resulting from supply control programs could reduce long-term competitiveness" and require lower U.S. prices to continue to increase U.S. milk production. Sleep deprived eaters are more likely to reach for junk food, such as sweets and chips, than their wide awake counterparts, according to a report in Health Day. Researchers found that reward centers of the brain were activated when sleepy participants were shown pictures of unhealthy foods. Full Story

American adults consume an average of 22 teaspoons a day, or about 355 calories, from added sugars, claimed a spokeswoman for the American Heart Association and a nutrition professor at the University of Vermont. Companies including Monsanto and DuPont's Pioneer Hi-Bred are gathering crop data to create customized planting plans transmitted to gadgets that help drive vehicles and control seed and fertilizer dispersal. Precision Planting, which will be purchased by Monsanto, created the more than $5,000 20/20 Air Force system that automatically adjusts the pressure used to plant seeds as well as a companion iPad app that shows a map of crop fields overlaid with data such as soil type, reported The Wall Street Journal.
