Taco BellÀº FirstMealÀ̶ó´Â Á¶Âù ¸Þ´º 2°¡Áö¸¦ ¼Ò°³ÇÏ¿´°í, ¾à 800°³ÀÇ ¸ÅÀå¿¡Àû¿ëÇÏ°í ÀÖ´Ù. Continuing its entry into breakfast, Taco Bell introduced two menu items for what it calls FirstMeal: the A.M. Crunchwrap and the Mtn Dew A.M. The chain is testing its breakfast menu in about 800 restaurants, primarily in the western U.S., as a way to draw customers at a time when its restaurants traditionally have not been open. Berkeley. Working from data about several hundred San Francisco restaurants, U.C. Berkeley economists found that an extra half star on Yelp can cause a restaurant to sell out 19% more frequently. In Pearland, TX, the pairing of a Fuddruckers with a Luby's was declared as a "wonderful" way to negotiate eating out, according to a local dining expert. Although hybrids are not new, more restaurants are turning to the concept. Luby's, which has owned the Fuddruckers brand since 2010, created its side-by-side concept to enable more families to agree on their dinner plans, even when they can't decide on where, reported The Houston Chronicle. BrightFarms partnered with Schnuck Markets to build a new greenhouse. The one-acre facility, about 43,500-sq.-ft., will cost about $2 million and provide the St. Louis-based supermarket chain with fresh, local produce year round. A local farmer, in partnership with BrightFarms, will operate the greenhouse and deliver produce to Schnucks. Since 2006, more U.S. households are regularly eating more wheat bread than white and the preference has continued to slowly increase since then, according to studies cited by the Whole Grains Council, reported Boston.com. ¸ÅÃâ °¨¼Ò¿¡ µû¶ó Å×½ºÄÚ´Â Á¡Æ÷ ±¸»ö È®´ë¸¦ ÅëÇØ ¸ÅÃ⠹ݵîÀ» ²ÒÇÏ°í ÀÖ´Ù. With same-store sales falling, Tesco is hoping to get a boost from customers by tripling the number of outlets offering what it calls click and collect. The chain's leading share of the UK grocery market shrunk to a seven-year low this year as more Britons chose upscale competitors such as Waitrose or discounters like Iceland Foods and Aldi. By year end, Tesco expects to complete collection points in 150 stores as part of a 1 billion-pound ($1.6 billion) initiative to revive domestic sales. Net profit fell to 145 million roubles ($4.48 million) from 390 million roubles in the same period of 2011, missing an average Reuters poll view of 288.4 million roubles. With demand for organic, natural and specialty food continuing to outpace other segments in the grocery industry, co-ops claim they must improve their stores, identify trends and appeal to a changing audience as the competition moves in. About 80% of co-ops' produce is organic, compared to 12% for conventional grocers, reported The Associated Press. Full Story

Campbell Soup´Â Soup ¸ÅÃâ Áõ´ë¿¡ µû¶ó ºÐ±â ÀÌÀ͸ñÇ¥¸¦ »óȸÇÏ´Â ½ÇÀûÀ» âÃâÇÏ¿´´Ù. Campbell Soup posted a bigger-than-expected quarterly profit and gave an upbeat full-year outlook helped by boosted soup sales. After several winters when soup sales suffered from heavy discounting and a lack of innovation, Campbell and its new chief executive are trying to improve performance with a range of new products, including Thai green curry skillet sauce. The company's U.S. soup sales rose 9% in the fourth quarter, with condensed products up 14% and ready-to-serve up 1%. Broth sales increased 4%, helped by the introduction of the Swanson Flavor Boost line, reported Reuters. Full Story

µ·À° °ø±Þ °ú´Ù ¹× ¼Òºñ °¨¼Ò·Î Smithfield Foods´Â ¸ñÇ¥ ´ëºñ ³·Àº ÀÌÀͼº°ú¸¦ ³ªÅ¸³Â´Ù. Smithfield Foods reported a quarterly profit below analysts estimates as higher supplies and weak retail demand in the US hurt its fresh pork business. Operating margin in the fresh pork segment fell to negative 1% in the first quarter from 3% a year earlier. The company, which owns the Farmland, Smithfield, Armour and John Morrell brands, stated margins have improved considerably since the end of the quarter. Operating margin in the hog production business also contracted during the quarter ended July 29, as the worst US drought in more than half a century spiked grain costs, pushing up the cost of raising hogs, reported Reuters. The deal is one of the largest sponsorships to date in U.S. sports, valued at $2.3 billion, according to reports. One key difference with the new deal is the expansion to include five of the company's trademarks, up from three; Tropicana and Quaker Oats were added to Pepsi, Gatorade and Frito Lay, reported Advertising Age. The statistics are conclusions of anew report published in the current issue of HerbalGram, the nonprofit American Botanical Council's (ABC) peer-reviewed quarterly journal. Sales in the mainstream market channel (e.g., drugstores, etc.) continued to grow, increasing almost 3% over 2010 sales while sales in natural food stores rose by a strong 5.5%. Full Story

ÄÚÄ«Äݶó´Â Â÷ÁÖ¿¡ Dasani Drops¸¦ ¼Ò°³Çϱâ·Î Çß´Ù. Coca-Cola is introducing its Dasani Drops in coming weeks, which can be squeezed into water for some on-the-spot fruity flavor. Although there are no set plans yet, the company's VP of water, tea and coffee business in North America stated the next logical category for liquid drops would be tea, as drinks with higher sugar content are harder to turn into a liquid concentrate. These fisheries include include yellowedge grouper, blueline tilefish, silk snapper, misty grouper, queen snapper, sand tilefish, black snapper, and blackfin snapper), as well as the porgy complex (including jolthead porgy, knobbed porgy, whitebone porgy, scup, and saucereye porgy) , reports The National Marine Fisheries Service. Blast-chilling systems are used to increase packing plant throughput, enhance food safety, and improve meat quality, particularly water-holding capacity of muscles from stress-susceptible pigs. According to the study published in Journal of Animal Science, meat researchers found that blast chilling can have a very substantial negative impact on tenderness, so trade-offs that must be considered, reported Science Daily. A group of food companies that includes Cargill sued a sugar industry trade group, claiming high fructose corn syrup is being unfairly maligned by promoters of "natural" sugar. The filing in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles is a counter claim to a lawsuit brought in April 2011 by the sugar industry, reported Reuters. Full Story

EPS stated the extension is due to higher-than-normal stocks of the organophosphate chemical in grower hands because of crop losses in the Midwest and East. At the same time, the agency reaffirmed its decision to ban the sale of Guthion, the trade name for the product azinphos-methyl, as of Sept. 30, reported Yakima Herald. Full Story

Retail prices jumped this summer from about $20 for a 50-lb. bag to $30 or higher, claimed the owner of Pop It Rite, an Illinois-based popcorn industry expert and snack foods consultant. Wholesale prices have started to increase as well. The popcorn industry sold $985.7 million in 2010 worth of unpopped kernels, down 2.2% from five years earlier, but export demand has been slowly rising in recent years from China and Russia, reported Reuters. To stabilize the market, Mexico's Economic Secretary suspended tariffs on egg imports, and thousands of additional tons of U.S. eggs are headed south, reported The Washington Post. Consumer habits are shifting toward sports drinks, bottled water and bottled tea and away from milk, experts state. The USDA reports beverage milk sales were about 6 billion gallons in 2011. The Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board reports that sales of yogurt and other dairy products have offset the decline of beverage milk.Wisconsin has a 48% share of U.S. specialty cheese sales, which have nearly doubled in sales per capita since 1975. But the board states less demand could also lower milk prices, according to an article on WEAU. Full Story
